We’ve heard time and again how important breakfast is for everyone, especially growing kids. After the long gap following dinner, the body requires something wholesome and nourishing to kick start energy levels and get the brain working properly. Kids who don’t have proper breakfasts have been found to display poor academic performance, disinterest in physical activity and irritable behavior with family and friends.

Yes, all that is true, but what do you do when you have a super picky eater at home who gobbles up half a dosa and runs off? Well we can’t force a child to eat more than he wants to, but we can make whatever he’s eating to be packed with nutrients and energy. Making it tasty won’t hurt either! This way, even if they don’t eat a lot, they’ll get in the nutrients they need to manage till lunchtime. One such breakfast recipe is a Sprouted Sathumaavu Dosa Recipe – made of our popular Sprouted Sathumaavu Mix powder.

  • Cumin seeds/Jeera – 1/2 tsp
  • Big onion – 1

2. Heat oil in a kadai and add in all the tempering ingredients in the same order as listed above starting with mustard seeds and ending with ginger.

3. Saute well till the onions turn transparent. I usually do this in the dosa tawa itself.

4. Add the tempering to the batter and mix well. Adjust the seasoning. The batter should be slightly watery.

5. Heat a dosa pan and pour the batter in a circular manner starting from outwards towards center. Fill any holes with small drops of batter.

6. Drizzle a tsp of oil around the dosa and cook one side on a medium flame till the edges start to lift slightly. Flip the dosa and cook for a minute. Remove the dosa and continue making dosas till the batter is used up.

These dosas taste good on their own, making them ideal for kids who don’t have much time – just roll it up and munch as you get ready! This is also good to serve in the evenings after school, with some chutney or chutney powder or even tomato ketchup!

      Hi Saranya,

Yes, you can give sathumaavu dosa for your baby. But please avoid salt while preparing. Salt can be added in baby food only after 1 year of age.
