Ingredients

  • Varagu/Kodo millet - 1 cup
  • Moong dal - 2 tbsp
  • Pepper - 1 tsp
  • Jeera - 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves - 1 spring
  • Turmeric powder - a pinch
  • Water
  • Ginger - 1 tbsp finely chopped
  • Ghee - 1 tbsp
  • Cashews - 5 splitted

Instructions

  • Wash and soak koda millet and moongdal for 1 hour.
  • Heat a small pressure cooker with ghee and add pepper, jeera. Let it splutter.
  • Add curry leaves.
  • Add ginger, turmeric and saute.
  • Add moong dal and saute.
  • Add Kodo millet / Varagu and saute.
  • Add water and bring it to a boil.
  • Pressure cook it for 3-4 whistles in medium flame.
  • Heat a tadka pan with ghee.
  • Once the ghee is heated, add cashews and fry it till golden brown.
  • Add the ghee fried cashews to the Pongal once pressure is released from the cooker and mix well.
  • Yummy & healthy millet pongal for kids is ready to serve.
