Moong Dal Cheela Recipe

  • 1/4 cup Split green gram skinless dhuli moong dal
  • 1 1/2 inch piece Ginger roughly chopped
  • 5-6 cloves Garlic roughly chopped
  • 1 Onion roughly chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp hing
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • Ghee to shallow fry


  • Soak the moong dal in water for about half an hour. Drain and grind with ginger, garlic, onion to a smooth batter. Add all the seasonings.
  • Heat a tawa and grease it. Pour a ladle of batter on the tawa and spread round to make a thin dosa.
  • Drizzle a little ghee over the cheela and cook on medium heat till one side is done. Flip over carefully, drizzle a little ghee and cook till the other side is done too.
  • Serve with chutneys of your choice.
