Punjabi Sweet Mathri Recipe

Mathri is usually done in a spicy and savory way, this is a delicious sweet version of the normal mathri.

Ingredients

  • 500 gm wheat flour
  • 300 gm jaggery
  • 100 gm ghee
  • 1/2 tbsp fennel seeds powdered/saunf
  • Ghee/oil for frying

Instructions

  • Dissolve jaggery in 1/2 lt water and boil it to make a syrup.
  • Let the jaggery syrup cool down.
  • In a big bowl take the flour.
  • Add ghee and mix the flour with this ghee evenly.
  • Add powdered fennel seeds.
  • Knead into a tight dough using jaggery syrup.
  • Let it rest for 1 hour.
  • Take a small portion of dough roll it.
  • Cut mathri of desired shape.
  • Pierce them with a fork.
  • Repeat with the rest of the dough.
  • Either Deep Fry or bake the mathri.

Notes

The Mathri can be stored in airtight container for 15 days.
It can be also baked for 12 to 15 minutes or till they get done at 180 degrees Celsius
