Bread Halwa Recipe for Toddlers

This bread halwa recipe is perfect for babies and toddlers and can be made with a few ingredients - including leftover bread slices!

Ingredients

  • Whole wheat Bread - 4
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Palm Sugar/ Brown Sugar - 1/2 cup
  • Homemade Ghee - 4 tbsp
  • Cardamom powder - 1/8 tsp
  • Cashews - 5
  • Raisins - 1 tbsp

Instructions

  • Keep all the ingredients ready. Cut the bread into cubes.
  • Heat a thick bottomed pan with 2 tbsp of ghee and add cashews and raisins, fry them until golden brown. Remove from the pan once done. Then add bread cubes.
  • Toast the bread cubes for 5 minutes or until crisp and golden brown in color. Add milk slowly.

  • When all the milk is added, cook it on a low-medium flame for 10-12 minutes or until the bread is mashed and soft. Give a stir occasionally.
  • Once the milk is almost completely absorbed, add brown sugar and cardamom. Mix well. After adding sugar, the mixture will release a little liquid but will thicken with time. Cook it further until all the milk is absorbed. Keep stirring in between and add the remaining ghee slowly.
  • When the halwa forms a whole mass and doesn't stick to the pan, add the fried cashews & raisins and switch off the flame.
  • Transfer to a dish and serve immediately.
