Keep all the ingredients ready. Cut the bread into cubes.
Heat a thick bottomed pan with 2 tbsp of ghee and add cashews and raisins, fry them until golden brown. Remove from the pan once done. Then add bread cubes.
Toast the bread cubes for 5 minutes or until crisp and golden brown in color. Add milk slowly.

When all the milk is added, cook it on a low-medium flame for 10-12 minutes or until the bread is mashed and soft. Give a stir occasionally.
Once the milk is almost completely absorbed, add brown sugar and cardamom. Mix well. After adding sugar, the mixture will release a little liquid but will thicken with time. Cook it further until all the milk is absorbed. Keep stirring in between and add the remaining ghee slowly.
When the halwa forms a whole mass and doesn't stick to the pan, add the fried cashews & raisins and switch off the flame.
Transfer to a dish and serve immediately.
