Suji/Semolina Upma for Babies

Suji/ semolina upma can serve as a healthy and filling breakfast for your little ones. You may add vegetables to it making it all the more wholesome. Here I have added grated carrot to the upma. Cumin acts as a flavorant. While introducing suji upma to your baby, make sure it is of thin consistency. You may give a thicker upma and also add more vegetables to it like green peas etc in the later stage.

Ingredients

  • Suji /semolina - 2-3 tablespoon
  • Carrot - 1 small grated
  • Onion - 1 small grated optional
  • Ghee - 1 teaspoon
  • Cumin seeds / roasted cumin powder - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder – a pinch

Instructions

  • Heat ghee in a pan. Keep 1 cup of water to heat in another pan.
  • Add cumin seeds to the ghee. Once the seeds crackle, add the grated onion, if using. Saute for about a minute.
  • Next add in grated carrot and stir fry for few seconds.
  • Add turmeric powder, followed by suji.
  • Stir fry the suji with veggies on low to medium flame for 1-2 minutes.
  • Now add the boiling water slowly while stirring continuously to ensure no lumps are formed in the upma. Keep stirring the upma until it attains a desired consistency.
  • Put off the flame. The upma further thickens on cooling, so adjust the cooking time and amount of water accordingly.
  • Serve the upma to your baby while it is still warm.
