Sago Dates Porridge

Sago dates porridge is a delicious, stage 2 baby food. We know that sweeteners like jaggery, sugar or honey should not be fed to babies under one years of age. However, you can serve them dates, which is a fruit sugar and has many health benefits. Sago is healthy and easy to digest. Cardamom powder lends flavor to the porridge and further aids in digestion.

Ingredients

  • Sago pearls / sabudana - 2 tablespoon
  • Dates pitted - 2 -3
  • Cardamom powder – a pinch

Instructions

  • Rinse the sago pearls and soak them in enough water for 4-5 hours.
  • In another bowl, soak the pitted dates in water.
  • After the soaking time, pulse the dates in a blender along with the soaked water to get a fine paste. You may add more water to make the paste if required.
  • In a sauce pan add the dates puree and soaked sago pearls. Add 1/2 cup water. Stir well.
  • Cook it for 7-10 minutes on low flame until the sago is cooked well and they turn transparent. Keep stirring the porridge while cooking to ensure it does not catch the bottom of the sauce pan.
  • Put off the flame. Add the cardamom powder. Give a quick stir. Allow the porridge to cool down a bit before serving.
