When I was in school, there was a boy called Varun in our class. Varun had an excellent command of the English language and consistently won all the essay-writing and speech competitions in school. Once, while our school’s cultural festival was going on, a teacher came into our class and asked if any of us knew how to play a musical instrument. The usual ‘musicians’ raised their hands, but among them was an unfamiliar one – Varun!
Just like us, the teacher was also surprised. She asked him again if he was sure he wanted to perform. A few kids even snickered behind his back, saying that music wasn’t like giving a speech, but Varun insisted. And on the day of the program, he silenced everyone – apparently, he was not just a good orator, he was also an excellent flautist!
Today, Varun is a successful doctor, but he still keeps his passion of playing the flute alive. Now that I look back, it was his sheer hunger to do more that helped him hold his ground even when others doubted him. The right encouragement then helped him and everyone else realize what he was truly capable of.
And that’s the thing about kids – they can surprise us! Our children are much more wonderful than we think they are, and their hunger to grow and do amazing things is often underestimated by adults. To bring this to light, Horlicks recently conducted a little mentorship program, called the Passion Paathshala*.
#PassionPaathshala – Kids Have a Hunger to do More
The Passion Paathshala* team chose a few kids who were talented in fields like dance, music, karate and art, and got them to register for the workshop. At the end of the workshop, their parents were invited for a performance, and they were all pleasantly surprised! Check out the video below to watch this delightful story unfold before their eyes.
I’m pretty sure you were just as surprised as the parents in the video! Passion Paathshaala* is India’s first-of-its-kind talent mentorship workshop, where kids talented in one field learn another activity they’re interested in. In short, this is a Passion Test, where kids realize their varied potential and parents get a glimpse into how multitalented their kids are!
Our society tends to label everything, whether they’re things in our home or people. A fruit basket should hold fruit; an author should write books. However, today’s kids aren’t ready to be boxed up and they are hungry for more! Workshops like this make us realize that kids don’t have to be defined by any one passion; they can be many things at once!
So are you aware of any hidden passions your child may have? There is a simple way to find out – by taking the Passion Test*, a questionnaire designed to help parents find their kids’ different areas of interest. Take the test, and encourage your kids’ hunger to do more and be more!
